I am not a runner, but the mighty Ragnar and Wasatch Back has been calling my name for some time and I am SO happy I was able to run it this year.
The Wasatch Back is a 2 day race covering 192 miles. You run in teams of 12 people, each person running 3 legs. For 2 days you run, hop in a van, drive, kind of eat, not really sleep, and then run again. It is crazy and awesome and empowering and exhausting. After my first leg my thoughts were:
“Ya, I can do this. Everyone else seems really excited about it, and I feel ok. Ya, this is fun”.
Second came along and it was more like:
“This is NOT fun. This is insane. No, this is stupid. Why in the world would anyone ever want to to this? I will never do this again. Heck, I don’t even know if I’ll finish!”
But THEN I ran my third leg. It was early in the morning and I was running through fields gleaming with morning dew. Somewhere over the rainbow started on my Ipod and I was in heaven.
“I will do this every year for the rest of my life.”
It was one of the clearest and most perfect moments. I ran harder in that last mile then I think I ever have in my life. It was AWESOME.
I think one of my favorite parts of the race is to see so many people working for the same goal. Teams aren’t really competing against one another and there is so much positive energy and encouragement flowing through the race. As you can see, we dress up and decorate the vans and just have fun.I loved every second of it, even waking up to ice covered sleeping bags. (gross)
There are now 15 Ragnar races set up around the U.S. check out the nearest one by you HERE. DO IT! Even if you aren’t a runner, Im not.
